A Smarter Approach to Testosterone, Hormone Replacement, and Healthy Aging
A Smarter Approach to Hormones and Healthy Aging
Longevity medicine isn’t about chasing youth—it’s about preserving strength, clarity, and independence for as long as possible.
Hormones—including testosterone, estrogen, and DHEA—play a central role in energy, sleep, metabolism, mood, muscle mass, bone density, and cardiovascular health. Yet testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) and hormone replacement therapy (HRT) remain surprisingly underutilized in traditional medical settings.
In many practices, time constraints limit detailed evaluation and close laboratory follow-up. In others, treatment is reserved only for severely low lab values—rather than addressing meaningful symptoms that impact quality of life.
I believe symptoms matter.
Fatigue, brain fog, weight gain, declining strength, poor sleep, and low libido are not things patients should be told to simply accept as part of aging. These are often signs of hormonal decline, including low testosterone, and may be appropriate to evaluate for testosterone replacement or broader hormone optimization.
In my practice, we take a more comprehensive and individualized approach. We perform thorough evaluations, review both symptoms and lab data, and discuss the risks and benefits of TRT or HRT clearly. When appropriate, we initiate therapy and carefully titrate dosing with ongoing lab monitoring and direct physician oversight.
Hormone replacement therapy is not appropriate for every patient. Proper screening, individualized dosing, and close follow-up are essential to ensure both safety and effectiveness. Decisions around testosterone therapy or hormone optimization should always be made in partnership with a physician who carefully weighs potential benefits and risks.
Our approach is also highly data-driven. We utilize DEXA scans to assess body composition and bone density, VO₂ max testing for cardiovascular fitness, strength assessments, and continuous glucose monitoring when helpful. We combine lifestyle medicine with medically supervised weight management to reduce cardiometabolic risk while preserving lean muscle mass.
For patients who feel their concerns haven’t been fully addressed—or who are exploring testosterone replacement therapy (TRT), hormone replacement, or longevity-focused care—a more proactive, personalized model may be worth considering.
